Take Control of Your Life

It is a frightful thought of losing control of your car. An alert driver is in control. If the driver loses control, a wreck is likely. So it is with our lives. So many lives are wrecked, because people lose self-control. That could come through temptations, addictions, rage, fear, or other people. This brings disastrous results.

It is God's will for you to have self-control. According to the Bible, self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit working within you. God's Spirit does not force you or dominate you. Rather, the Spirit of God seeks to guide you and help you. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, . . . self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23).

If your life is out of control, help is available. It is only a prayer away. Ask God to help you. Yield your life to God's Spirit through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is known as the Spirit of liberty. He delights in setting people free, when their lives are out of control. "Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17).

Taking control of your life is a choice. Self-control comes through God's Spirit. It comes with love, joy, and peace. Ask the Lord to deliver you from all that has robbed you of self-control. Yield to the Spirit of Christ to set you free.
