God's Will for You

A group of young people in the church were about to graduate from high school. They had a social gathering and invited the pastor to speak to them. He spoke briefly that evening, and then he asked for any questions. One young man spoke immediately, "How can we know God's will for our lives?" The pastor said, "We know God's will for us through the Bible, in our hearts, and through the leadership of the Holy Spirit." The pastor explained the importance of each one. That's the way God makes His will known to all believers.

The Bible is our guide in the daily issues of life. It declares God's will for God's people. The word of God is the will of God. Also, God puts His will in our hearts. He gives us desires to do His good will (Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 6:6). Those desires agree with the teaching of the Bible. "Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is" (Ephesians 5:17).

God leads each believer through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God gives us peace and wisdom, as we do His will from the heart (Colossians 3:15-17). When the word of God and the Spirit of God confirm the desires of our hearts, we have confidence to know the Lord's will.

Are you seeking God's will in your life? Search the Scriptures for wise counsel. Ask God to give you wisdom, confirmed by peace of mind. Ask God to give you desires of the heart consistent with His will. Always be willing to surrender your will to God's will, knowing that His will is good, acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:2).
