Saved and Sure

"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart
that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

Romans 10:9

A man who wasn't a Christian visited a church for the first time. A friend from work invited him. After the service, the man asked his friend, "I noticed the minister referred to being saved several times. I really wasn't sure what he meant by that." The friend responded, "That really means that a person believes in the resurrection of Jesus Christ." A few weeks later, that man confessed Jesus as his Lord, because he came to believe in Jesus and the resurrection.

To confess Jesus as Lord is professing faith in Jesus, who died for our sins and was raised from the dead. That is the gospel, or the good news, for all to believe and receive. The apostle Paul defined the gospel. "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Cor. 15:3-4). Simply stated, that is the gospel, that all may hear and believe.

A man said, "I don't think anyone can know that he's saved until he dies." His friend said, "Well then, if you are not saved when you die, it's too late to do anything about it. Do you believe Jesus died for your sins and was raised from the dead?" The man responded, "I sure do." The other man replied, "Then, according to the Scriptures, you are saved." There was silence, as the man thought about that statement. Then he said, "You know, according to the Scriptures, you are right. I am saved."

The assurance of your relationship with God is based upon what the gospel teaches. If you believe the gospel, you will be saved. Let your faith in Jesus Christ stand upon the sure promise of Scripture. Then, you can be saved and sure.
