A Clean Conscience

A man came to his pastor to confess a sin that he had committed 25 years ago. The man said, "For all these years it has bothered me, but I have tried to push it out of my mind. Can you help me?" The pastor said, "I sure can. Christ died for all of your sins. When you confess your sins to God, all your sins are forgiven. The pastor read verses from the Bible showing that God cleanses us upon confession of our sins. When the man was leaving, he said, "I feel clean inside." He was clean before God through Jesus Christ.

God has given you a conscience. It tells you when you have done wrong. God made you that way not to make you feel guilty all the time. Conscience calls you to confession. God wants to forgive you and give you a clean conscience. Confession of sin is simply agreeing with God that you have done wrong. He wants you to have a clean conscience.

Why do people refuse to confess their sins to God to receive cleansing through Christ? There could only be two reasons. First, they don't know the good news in Christ. Secondly, they don't really believe the good news. The believer's confession of sin brings immediate cleansing through Christ. You can have a clean conscience today.

"The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."
1 John 1:7

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1:9
